Derek Hartvigson is a fifth-generation wood craftsman, born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. He grew up surrounded by artists and craftspeople. His grandmother and uncle are sculptors and clay artists, while his grandfather and father are wood craftsmen, specializing in fine furniture, cabinetry, and cedar-strip canoes.

Following in that tradition, Derek became a fine furniture and tool maker, with his work now focused primarily on chairs, tables and hand tools.

Derek is also a husband and father. He and his family currently live in Huntsville, Alabama, where they run their shop.
